Built in 1910, our hostel provides accommodation over 3 levels. Enjoy being in the heart of Melbourne, hearing the trams clink pass, the vibrancy of the city and local cafes, all outside your door. Our hostel has a variety of accommodation to suit every budget. Our older levels offer dorm accommodation plus single or double rooms with share toilets and showers. We have just completed a refurbishment of Level 3 which has 18 new rooms, 13 of which have ensuites and the other 5 rooms house dorm accommodation.

Elephant is opposite Flinders St Station, next to Federation Square and boundered by Degraves Lane. It is in the heart of Melbourne. Our guests rave about its location.

Level 3 has been extensively renovated and has

  • 18 flashpack rooms
  • 13 with ensuites
  • Ensuites have shower, hand basin, toilet and mirror
  • 3 x 8 bed dorms
  • 2 x 6 bed dorms
  • Unisex toilets and bathrooms located on this floor to service dorms
  • all rooms have new bunks, mattresses, pillows and commercially laundered linen
  • all bunks have their own securable locker

Levels 1-2 is older style accommodation of:

  • Singles
  • Double
  • 4 bed dorms
  • 6 bed dorms

Level 1-2 has the atmosphere of a large call centre with walls reaching 2 metres and no ceiling over your cubicle. This means, bring ear plugs and expect to hear noise from your neighbours. Level 1-2 is cheap, clean and central.
  • Commercially laundered and supplied sheets and pillowcase
  • Lockers in each room (buy or bring padlock)
  • Luggage lockers on Level 1 for hire for short or long periods
  • Securable lockers provided with every bed on Level 3.
  • Global Gossip available in basement and Wifi available throughout entire hostel.
